Our surf camp features three lovely guest bungalows, each with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Each of the bungalows has two individual rooms with private baths, air conditioning, two single beds or one queen-sized bed and large porches.
The porches are ideal for relaxing in hammocks and watching the sun rise and set over the Pacific Ocean. Our bungalows are equipped with small safes for the storage of valuables. However, our rooms do not have TVs, telephones or Internet connections, enabling our guests to leave the daily stresses of home behind and to enjoy the Pura Vida of Costa Rica.
At the main house for the surf camp are the common areas for guests to gather to eat breakfast, play games, shop for t-shirts and basic surfing gear and watch tv and surf videos. The main house also has wireless broadband Internet access for guests that simply cannot leave home without their laptops or need a quick Internet fix.
The camp is located on five acres of beautifully landscaped hillside. Guests of the camp can relax in our pool, hang out in hammocks on the porches, or wander around the camp gardens lined by fruit trees and flowers. We also have two small dogs, who love to have their bellies scratched and have a tendency to follow guests around begging for attention.
Your stay at Vista Guapa begins by being greeted by our drivers at the international airport in San Jose and shuttled along a scenic two-hour drive from the airport to the small surf town of Jaco Beach. After we get you settled into one of our beautiful, yet simple, air-conditioned bungalows, each with ocean views, we recommend a tour of our gardens of fruit trees and blossoming local flowers, a dip in the pool or a stretch on one of our breezy yoga decks. Take a deep breath and feel the pura vida start to work its magic.
Nothing builds up an appetite quite like surfing, and we’ve become notorious for our ample and delicious breakfasts served each morning at the camp by our lovely cooks. In addition, we partner with the best restaurants in the area to provide a great atmosphere and a variety of local flavors for dinner in the evenings. Therapists from a local spa are available to provide in-room or on-deck massages at the camp to soothe our guests’ achy muscles to finalize the complete relaxation experience.
Guests can relax in our pool, practice asanas* on our two yoga decks, hang out in hammocks on the ocean view porches, or wander around the camp gardens lined with fruit trees and native flowers.
Our team includes some of the best Surf and Stand Up Paddle (“SUP”) instructors in Costa Rica. They all are competitive surfers in their own right, many holding national titles themselves; but they focused mostly on our guests experiences and sharing that amazing moment when our students catch their first wave or accomplish whatever personal Surfing or SUP goals they may have.
The camp provides transportation to and from the San Jose International Airport (SJO). For those fortunate enough to travel during daylight hours, our drivers love to point out the scenery along the way – from crocodile viewing points (at a safe distance of course!) to ideal places for macaw sightings.
We also provide a full breakfast every morning, cooked in order to satiate your ravenous appetite after a morning of surfing. For those participating in our multi-day packages, we also provide dinner at several partner restaurants around town, to give you a sampling of the different local flavors and specialties.
Most importantly, Vista Guapa offers our guests a chance to get out of the hectic pace of everyday life and to truly stop and smell the flowers. We encourage you to disconnect your cellphone, wait to update your Facebook status, and instead experience the Pura Vida that only Costa Rica can provide. From the waves on the oceans to the sun salutations on our hillside yoga decks, you’ll find yourself reflecting on the beauty of life and remembering the important things that make this world so special.
So come join us today. Our smiling team is waiting for you at Vista Guapa, or as our returning guests call it “The Happiness Machine!” Pura Vida!
*In the practice of yoga, Asana denotes the art of sitting still and also any posture useful for restoring and maintaining a practitioner’s well-being and improving the body’s flexibility and vitality.
