“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” – James A. Michener
You don’t have to spend much time on the YOLO website to know that these guys are serious about making each day count. The theme of YOLO (“You Only Live Once” or as we say it “Solo Se Vive Una Vez”) is very much in the hearts and minds of founders Jeff Archer and Tom Losee. Both are business owners with a keen entrepreneurial spirit. Balancing family, business, and recreational activities always has its challenges, yet the realization that life will never slow down caused them to look at maximizing fun in relation to responsibility. Their motto is the mantra for these two entrepreneurs, which makes them perfect partners for us.
We got our first shipment of YOLO Boards last April, and we’ve had guests take them out on waves and still waters, working to stand up or even trying out a bit of yoga. We finally met Jeff and Mitzi Archer in December with our first annual Stand Up Paddle Camp, and it became clear to us from that visit that the partnership would quickly transform into a life-long friendship.
Jeff and his team are arranging for new boards to come to the camp in time for Kalama Kamp in April, and we intend to have several more Stand-Up Paddle events, in addition to our regular surf and yoga camps. Even if you don’t come for a specific SUP week, you’re always welcome to try it out. If you’re like us, you’ll be addicted soon enough!
So a special shout-out to our partners and friends at YOLO. Thanks for your support!
