Amanda Mason, Fitness Instructor, Health and Fitness Ambassador
Amanda also recently joined the Vista Guapa team as a Health and Fitness Ambassador. Amanda began working in fitness and nutrition in 2001, and loved it so much she went on to get her degree in Kinesiology from Indiana University, majoring as a Fitness Specialist with a minor in Public Health. With over 15 years of experience in fitness and nutrition, Amanda has worked in physical rehabilitation, as a Patient Are Technician and Exercise Physiologist, and developed a Health and Wellness program specifically designed for patients with brain injuries.
In 2010, Amanda left the US for the lush landscape of Costa Rica and worked with the Del Mar Surf camp for two years before embarking on her own to form Train with Amanda Mason, her own business offering personal fitness training and nutrition. Her decision to join forces with Vista Guapa is largely due to the alignment of our visions to promote better health and nutrition and offer advanced fitness training to our guests and the people of Jacó, as well as the vision to expand our offerings to include surf training and physical rehabilitation for disabled tourists and athletes.
Amanda holds certifications as a Fitness Nutrition Coach from the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association, a Specific Nutrition Certification from the International Sports Sciences Association, Plant-based nutrition from Cornell University, Resistance training 1,2 and 3 and is an ASCM certified personal trainer. She is certified in CPR, AED and First Aid by the Red Cross, and is a state and NCLB approved Paraprofessional.
Fitness Classes Styles:
- Circuit/Interval Resistance Training
- Beach or Mountain Classes: We hike mountains, use sand, palm trees & bodyweight to improve our fitness.
- SurfFit Training: Most surfers are in fine shape, and surfing itself is a good workout; but training is necessary outside of the water for improvements in the water. SurfFIT is a surf specific body weight training program designed to help beginner through advanced surfers improve in 6 main components: endurance, range of motion/flexibility, core stability and strength, upper body strength and endurance, lower body/balance/power and nutrition. *Even if you are not a surfer, the body weight resistance/interval based training helps create a lean, toned figure with a fun, innovative training style.
