Vista Guapa includes in its week-long packages a trip to nearby Carrara National Park or Manuel Antonio National Park. Jorge, our resident expert tour guide, is extremely knowledge of both plant and animal life in the parks and leads the guests on guided hikes around the parks. The trip is a fun break from surfing for a day; however, we do allow guests who prefer to stay and surf to swap out the trip for an additional surf lesson or day of guided surfing, depending on the package.
Your hosts at Vista Guapa are happy to help to arrange other activities during your stay. Please see examples of some of the activities in the surrounding area below. Prices are indicative of the costs by most of the local operators. However, they may be subject to change, depending on the service provider.
Vista Guapa is happy to announce that we have started to offer classes in conversational Spanish, in partnership with Ainara Vidal Campo. Ainara comes from the Basque Country in Spain and has been teaching Spanish for the last five years, including two years in Costa Rica. She works with the students to understand their level of understanding and ability to converse and then focuses on the phrases and grammar that will enhance their ability to communicate during the time they are in Costa Rica. Classes are generally in the afternoon on our open-air yoga deck and run for one hour.
Tour to the Arenal Volcano
Includes: Transportation, tour guide, lunch, entrance to the hot springs, and supper. This is an all-day tour, and cannot be done on the same day as any surfing. The trip leaves at 7am and returns late at night. We recommend package guests arrange to do this trip either before or after their week at the camp. The trip is certainly worthwhile, as Arenal Volcano is one of the biggest attractions of Costa Rica. The volcano is active, and is generally hidden behind clouds. However lucky travelers may have the opportunity to enjoy the eruptions by night, which is truly spectacular.
Includes: Transportation, guide, small refreshments, an approximately 3 hour tour. This tour goes to the top of one of the highest peaks in Costa Rica (according to a study by the University of Costa Rica). The ride extends along a river on trails leading up to a view of the sea, with opportunities to stop and relax at natural swimming holes.
Includes: The canopy tour begins with a 15 minute walk along a river and over bridges to a series of beautiful waterfalls. The nature guides keep you entertained and informed with their commentary on the various birds, plants and animals you may encounter along the way. In particular, watch for scarlet macaws, toucans and morpho butterflies – arguably the prettiest butterflies in the world! After refreshments and a short training session you are ready for the cables. Fourteen platforms, ranging from ground level to over 100 feet above the ground, include a “Tarzan” swing, suspension bridge, slide, and a fully-furnished 3 story treehouse in the style of Robinson Crusoe. After returning back to ground level you can either walk to the refreshments area or, if you are truly adventurous, take a thrilling ride along our 400 foot cable, then rappel down an 85 foot double rope to the ground.
Vista Guapa has partnered wtih New Horizon Spa Services to offer in-room massages (or on your balcony or on the yoga deck). The team of experienced therapists offer therapeutic massage, rejuvenating, deep tissue therapies, aromatherapy, exfoliation using natural seeds and sea salts, facials, and other services. The services range in price from $40 mud mask, $70 for a therapeutic 60-minute massage, or $125 packages that include exfoliation, wrap, massage and facial. It’s a great way to recover from the aches and pains from several days of surfing!
Sport fishing is another trip that many visitors to the Jaco area enjoy, but that requires a full day and cannot be done on the same day as surfing. The local operator offers a trip that includes beverages, snacks, and if the client desires, a trip to Tortuga Island. (5 hours)
There are other activities in the surrounding area as well including snorkeling, river rafting, sea kayaking, mountain biking, hikes, and visiting National Parks such as Manuel Antonio and the Carara Reserve. Or, if you prefer you can hang out by the pool or in a hammock and just relax!
